Your Baby's Life Support

Your baby’s umbilical cord serves as his lifeline to the placenta. The cord normally is made up of two arteries and one vein. Oxygenated blood is delivered to your baby through the cord, and arteries carry the de-oxygenated blood from your baby to the placenta. The cord is like an extension of your baby’s skin, but contrary to what some people believe, newborns feel no pain when their cords are clipped after birth.
